DTN COMMENTS: Just a few deals have been reported sold in Eastern
Nebraska today at $360, steady with the bulk of this week's business and
$2 higher than last week's weighted average. The rest of cattle country
remains very quiet. It is sounding like the bulk of business is
essentially done for the week.
So far this week, Northern dressed deals have had a range of $355 to
$362, mostly $360, $2 higher than last week's weighted average basis
Nebraska. Southern live business has been done at $230 to mostly $232, $4
below the prior week's weighted averages.
Today's slaughter totaled 96,000 head, 2,000 less than last week, and
20,000 below last year. Saturday's kill is estimated at 3,000 head,
bringing the weekly total to 555,000 head, 4,000 under the prior week,
and down 66,000 from 2024. Cattle futures rallied in the last hour of
trade to close sharply higher on both live (up 205 to 325) and feeder (up
27 to 435) contracts. Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed with
moderate to good box movement.
