DTN COMMENTS: Cattle country remains fairly quiet this afternoon, with a 
$380 bid noted in Eastern Nebraska, it has been passed. Still just a few 
asking prices are being reported in parts of Texas at $248, but bids in 
that area remain very elusive. Significant trade volume will likely be 
delayed until Wednesday or later. 

Today's slaughter totaled 111,000 head, 1,000 more than last week, but 
8,000 below a year ago. Cattle futures closed sharply lower on both live 
(off 16 to 330) and feeder (down 555 to 635) cattle contracts. Beef 
cutouts are expected to close mixed with light to moderate box movement.
